You Can Go Home Again: "Outer Local"

Scott Anderson

Vegetarian Dreams of Tropical Game, 2015 Oil and oil crayon on canvas 66" x 60"

The Santa Fe Art Project, an exhibition series that highlights emerging talent in the city's contemporary art scene as well as artists without gallery representation, continues at David Richard Gallery. The format pairs a Santa Fe Art Project exhibition curated by gallery staff with a guest-curated show of local and regional artists. The inaugural exhibition on Sept. 9 included Basins, organized by Radical Abacus founder John McKissick. The second exhibit, Women's Worh, selected by Santa Fe Collective's co-founder Jennifer Joseph, opened on Sept. 30. Now, SCUBA Collective (Crockett Bodelson and Sandra Wang) gives us Outer Local, a show of works by artists who have lived in Santa Fe, left, and then returned - including Susan Begy, Derek Chan, Andrew Cimelli, Cheri Ibes, Parker Jennings, Jessamyn Lovell, Ric Lum, and Kristen Roles. Outer Local derives its name from one of the first sculptures SCUBA made when the duo moved from the Bay Area to Santa Fe in 2011. The exhibit deals with the relationship of artists to place. Outer Local is paired with The Santa Fe Art Project-Part 3, an exhibition featuring art by Scott Anderson, Erik Hubert Gellert, Caity Kennedy, and others. The shows open with a 5 p.m. reception on Friday, Oct. 21. SCUBA hosts an artist panel at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 as well as on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5. The events are free to the public and take place at David Richard Gallery, 1570-A Pacheco St. Call The Santa Fe Art Project at 505-780-8542 for more information. - Michael Abatemarco
