New Hard Edge Paintings On Shaped Canvases by Li Trincere

June 24, 2018

Attached please find new shaped canvas paintings by New York-based artist Li Trincere that she is debuting in her first exhibition with David Richard Gallery, New York.

The shapes of paintings and interactions with their respective surfaces have been the focus of Trincere’s studio practice since the mid-1980s. Her approach is steady and measured. Committed to non-objective painting, Trincere explores the balance between not only shape and composition, but also the interplay with surface, light and color to provide an illusory depth. The depth is also a function of the many layers of paint that the artist rigorously applies to the surface of each painting to create a very tactile surface and revealing the textured brush stokes one on top of the other. The combination makes her paintings more reductive and object-like, but not minimalist. While she emerged in the 80s during a time when painting was questioned and challenged, her practice is all about painting—bold statements exploring shape, composition, color and the visible artist hand.

David Richard Gallery is pleased to be representing Li Trincere.
