David Richard Contemporary is pleased to present, Current Work, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Lilly Fenichel and her first solo show with the gallery.
This work features Fenichel’s newest process of pouring oil-based glazes onto a stretched polypropylene support. The surface is very unique in that is incredibly smooth and bright white. The medium glides effortlessly and pools. While Fenichel controls the color selections and composition, the process is organic in that subtle changes occur during the drying process, thus adding an element of surprise. The compositions are abstract and reductive, often gestural with no reference, other times figuration emerges. The work is fresh, exciting and bold.
Fenichel completed her undergraduate work at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and later studied with Hassel Smith at the California School of Fine Art—currently the San Francisco Art Institute. She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions during her six decade career. A recipient of three International Pollock-Krasner Grants and numerous other awards, her artwork is in the permanent collections of the Harwood Museum, Albuquerque Museum and U. of New Mexico Art Museum along with numerous private and public collections.
David Richard Contemporary is located in downtown Santa Fe north of the historic plaza and specializes in post-war abstract art including Abstract Expressionism, Color Field, geometric, hard-edged, Op, Pop and Minimalism in a variety of media. Featuring both historic and contemporary artwork, the gallery represents many established mid to late-career artists who were part of important art historical movements and tendencies that occurred during the 1950s through the 1980s on both the east and west coasts. The gallery also represents artist estates, emerging artists and offers secondary market works.
Gallery Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM
