Beverly Fishman "Wavelengths"

Click here to view catalog Delectable, Delirious, Dilemma by Lilly Wei Beverly Fishman is obsessed with drugs. In her case, however, it manifests itself as paintings and sculptural objects, eye pharma cum eye candy. Meant to seduce, these deliriously colored, psychotropic works, imaged as both abstractions and representations, are derived in part from feminist and postfeminist ideologies, from what Betty Friedan’s Feminine Mystique (1963) described as the plight of the mid-2

DIA get dose of Big Pharma - Review of Beverly Fishman exhibition

Pill Spill is a new work by Beverly Fishman at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Each pill is handcrafted in glass; each pill is unique. (Photo/Aaron Burgess) On life support since its public and private funding dried up, the DIA has been waiting for an economic transfusion for years. The recent millage approved by voters in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties gives the Museum a new lease on life. I can't help but think that Beverly Fishman's Pill Spill, a glass installation tha

Beverly Fishman "Deceptive Pleasures"

Stunningly beautiful, Beverly Fishman’s bands of iridescent colors cannot help but arouse one’s emotions, all the more so because one is mirrored by the paintings, suggesting that the squiggly lines embedded in the colors register one’s own nervous emotions. They in fact do: their patterns are transcriptions of EKG, EEG, and neuron spike readouts, with some bar codes thrown in to add a social measure to the disembodied bodily data. And, for good measure, some of the patterns

"Pill Spill" Offers Late-Summer Thrill at Toledo Museum of Art

Beverly Fishman is continuing her artistic study of the human body and the pharmaceutical industry through a new medium with her exhibit “Pill Spill” at the Toledo Museum of Art Glass Pavilion. The installation features 120 glass capsules representing pills, which are placed between the walls of the entrance. According to Fishman, this creates the analogy of the Glass Pavilion as a human body digesting the pills. “I’ve had a long-standing relationship with my interest with th
