Dynamic Compositions and Bold Colors in Matt King's New Paintings

MATT KING

King’s paintings are playful with hints of representational elements and internal narratives, despite their grounding in abstraction. His newest compositions go off the canvas with plenty of movement and bold colors that take your eye in every direction. A self taught painter, his works move between hard edge painting and gestural abstraction with frequent references to Modernism. King is a co-founder of the art collective Meow Wolf, and one of two artists who built Meow Wolf’s first installation, “Meowzors.” Currently, Matt is Fabrication Director, a managing owner, and a lead artist for Meow Wolf’s new permanent installation in Santa Fe, the “House of Eternal Return."
